6 - and I watch as you sleep, so indelibly deep [Feb. 28th, 2010|10:25 pm]
I hope you'll all forgive me for not posting something about it sooner, but they've found Alex, and I've been spending most of my time at the hospital. I know I should have posted something right away - I wasn't the only one worried, I know - but my mind's been so occupied... They found him a few days ago. I'm still not sure about the details, but he's going to be all right, and that's all that matters.

As I said, I don't really know what happened. But I'm just glad to have him back.

5 - why worry, there should be laughter after pain, there should be sunshine after rain [Feb. 23rd, 2010|02:55 pm]
Alex didn't come home last night.

I figured he fell asleep at work... but I called, and that doesn't seem to be the case. And he would have called me by now. He would know that I'd be worried.

I'm worried.

I'm sure he's fine. He's just... away, but he'll come back.

...but could you let me know if you've seen him?

4 - would you lend a caring hand to shelther those who need it? [Jan. 29th, 2010|12:57 pm]
Just so everyone knows:

The local coffee house - not Starbucks, the locally owned one - is holding a small concert Saturday evening. All proceeds are going to help the family whose house was lost in the recent tragedy that's struck Harmony. I'll be doing a few songs - old ones and a few new ones. Did you know I can write songs that aren't about phones? It's a whole new artistic ground for me.

Really, though. It's a good cause, and I encourage all of you to come, if only for a little while.

3 - I found God in a catalytic converter in Topeka on a Monday night. [Jan. 16th, 2010|05:51 pm]
Did anyone else know that today is Religious Freedom Day? I didn't. It's the commemoration of the passage of the Virginia Statute on Religious Freedom, penned by Thomas Jefferson. So, hooray for the ability to worship God, Allah, the Flying Spaghetti Monster, or nothing at all, and hooray for civil liberties!

I've been looking through all of my old music books. It really takes me back. The First Book of Mezzo-Soprano/Alto Solos, Practical Method of Italian Singing, Virtuoso Pianist In 60 Exercises, 120 Studies For Right Hand Development, even a few showtunes songbooks... I have a lot more sheet music than I thought I did. I hope you don't mind me dumping my older, easier stuff on you, Billy. You might be expanding Bad Horse Books's music collection more than you anticipated. If it's too much, I guess there's always EBay.

I made a lot of resolutions this year, and I think I'm doing pretty well with most of them. Sure, it's only sixteen days into the new year, but it's still an accomplishment. I've been trying to eat better - more organic fruits and vegetables - and to cook more. And I'm determined to spend more time on my music this year. I can't focus on my job; it'll only make me miserable. And it's been awhile since I wrote a new song. I'm going to try to look for more opportunities to actually perform. I need to stop making a singing career on Rock Band 2 and start making one in real life... though I'm not giving up Beatles: Rock Band. You can harmonize on that.

2 - she's twenty years of strangers looking into each others' eyes [Dec. 17th, 2009|08:02 pm]
I think I'll join in with the majority of you: I love Christmas. All the cheesy commercialism and the joy to the world and peace on earth and good will to men. And Santa Hats. And Christmas trees!

I went with less jolly and more eco-friendly this year.

(and she's never truly hated anyone or anything )

Sure, it's made of plywood, but it's just as pretty in its own way, and I like knowing that I'm doing something to help the environment, even if it's small. And it's definitely better looking than your average artificial tree.

And most of all: Christmas music. Everyone else might be sick of them being constantly played in stores and malls, but I don't think I could ever get enough. I get a lot of requests for carols this time of year, obviously. It makes me miss the college's performance - I haven't gone once since I graduated. I'll have to do that this year.

Other than that, I don't really have any plans for Christmas Day. I'm not the church-going type. It'll probably just be a quiet day at home, maybe a visit to my parents.

1 - you had the cleanest dirty laundry that a Laundromat had ever seen [Nov. 10th, 2009|03:36 pm]
So... people have been angry over the phones. Angrier than usual, that is. I mean, I'm used to the pranks and to getting hung up on, but I swear people are frustrated about something, and they really don't want to be interrupted. Not that they ever want to be interrupted, but you know what I mean.

I'm Penny. If you couldn't tell, I'm a telemarketer (please don't "flame" me, I have to bother you, it's my job). You might recognize my voice from that if you ever see me around town. Or you might know me from my music, I do some of that do. I perform in coffee houses and at local charity events. I don't know that many people, so I figured joining the Network would help with that... but everyone seems so flustered. I wish I knew what was going on.

Anyway, that's me and my story. I hope everyone feels better soon.
